The objectives of the high-performance microscopes are designed to be used with coverslips with a thickness of 170 μm.

The quality of the coverslip, in particular compliance with the nominal thickness, therefore has a crucial impact on image quality: variations in thickness reduce contrast and cause image defects, particularly in spherical aberration.
